Craft a Neverwood inspired adventure mask

Make a mask just like Peter and the Lost Boys wear to explore the forests of the Neverwood. You can use treasures from the garden and things you can easily find at home!

What you'll need:

  • 1 paper plate

  • Scissors

  • String

  • Glue

  • Hole punch

  • Colouring pens

  • Old newspapers or magazines

  • Sticky tape

  • Cotton wool (optional)

  • Fabric pieces (optional)

  • Feathers (optional)

  • Glitter (optional)

  • Leaves of different shapes and sizes

  • Sticks and branches

  • Flower petals

  • Grass

  • Tree bark pieces

Ask a grown-up to go on a garden treasure hunt together!

Find and collect a few handfuls of your favourite leaves, twigs and flowers. Make sure to wash your hands after collecting and let a grown-up check that everything is safe to use. (Some plants can be itchy so it's always best to double-check!)

Craft your adventure mask

  1. Draw two circles onto a paper plate where your eyes would be and then ask a grown-up to help you to carefully cut two holes, using the drawings in pen as a guide.

  2. Next, colour in the base of the paper mask in your favourite colours using the colouring pens. You could use greens and browns to look like the forest!

  3. Place the leaves onto your mask and use the glue to stick them.

  4. Put the small twigs around the edges to look like hair and then stick them into place.

  5. Now glue the rest of the treasures that you found to your mask - like the flowers and grass. You can add glitter, feathers, cotton wool and other decorations.

  6. To finish your mask, ask a grown-up to make two small holes on either side of your mask. Put the string through the holes and now you will be able to wear your new mask!

Peter's top tips

  • Think of your favourite season and what colours the leaves are. You can find red and yellow leaves in Autumn and green leaves when it’s Spring!

  •  If you want to wear your mask outside, ask a grown-up to help you cover it with clear sticky tape to protect it from rain.

  • Cut your paper plate into fun shapes to make different types of masks.
